The key is excluding "complex and dangerous companies". There still are companies with the relative simplicity of days of yore. This has served me well over the last decade. It's true that there is lots of data, but if you can cut out all but the critical information, it's manageable. Software and automated calculations help, and could theoretically make it easier than it was in the past.
